Porter CableWhen you're looking for tools you'll notice, more often then not, Porter Cable has the lowest priced tools. And I'm sure, like everyone, you wonder why they are so much less money. When you look at the specs you'll notice they aren't top of line, but also not much worst than the top brands.
The main issue I find with Porter Cable Tools is durability. To completely counter that idea, I worked with a Master Carpenter who had a Porter Cable Reciprocating saw that he swore he had forever and it never had the slightest issue. But they are not made for everyday, 8 - 10 hr use. So, if you have a small demolition project and know you wont need a reciprocating saw much after that, go for the Porter Cable. I'm not going to say all Porter Cable tools are as good as that particular saw (keep in mind it was an older model too). But at the end of the day, if you just need a tool for a specific use, and don't want to buy a $200 model, this is a safe bet. Don't expect it to last as long, but if you keep a fresh blade on your tool it will last longer than you expect. The key is if you are going to buy Porter Cable tools just make sure to take extra care. Don't drop your tools or stack things on top (without a hard case). Also, take extra care to clean any debris off your tools before storing them. You should take these precautions with every power tool you buy, but some parts in this particular brands tools are just more prone to breakage. That's the point though, they couldn't sell their tools so cheap if they used the same durable materials as the top brands. |
